Sienna's New Room

Maybe I'll start blogging again with all my pandemic free time these days. Just kidding, I have no free time. But, I promised to share Sienna's room makeover so here I am writing down all the details for you.

All Sienna asked for this year for her birthday, was a new "jungle" themed bedroom. She had a vision of animals everywhere (especially, cheetahs) and dark colors. Pretty much exactly the opposite of her current "rainbow" themed room. She specifically asked me to paint a jungle themed wall, with animals and trees, but I knew my art skills weren't going to cut it. So I searched and searched for wall papers to try to appease my girl. She also specifically asked for a table with drawers. Other than those requests, I asked for creative freedom for the room, and for her to let me surprise her.

Before (sorry, poor lit cell phone photos):

*I can make a post on the rainbow wall if there's interest.

Inspiration (found on Pinterest):

I was really drawn to deep colors and greenery when I started the makeover. I kept second guessing myself, but happy I trusted my initial instinct.

After: ta-da! Dark and animal-y for my jungle loving girl.

I'll say, there's nothing like piecing a room together during a global pandemic. I'm a visual shopper, and really like to see items and touch them as I shop in stores, so turning to online (while keeping it budget friendly) was definitely a change for me. So where'd I shop? 90% is either from Amazon or Target (shopped online). Once things started opening back up here, I made one in-person trip to Target and Homegoods to finish it up. I also scored some essentials off Facebook. Note, this post is not sponsored and no items I'm sharing were gifted to me.

First step, was choosing the paint color. Her walls were all white except for a beautiful striped rainbow wall I painted last summer for her. I was pretty indecisive on the paint color to be honest. I was drawn to darker walls, but worried it would be too much in the bedroom. I already bought the comforter set which was dark and was teetering on the decision on whether to pick a light green (like SW sea salt), a dark jade, or somewhere in between. I finally pulled up a paint color app, snapped screenshots of some of the ones I was considering, and asked Sienna what she thought. She surprised me with requesting one of the darker, more blue shades. So here we are, with 'Tornado Season' by Behr.

Linking all the items I purchased below, separated by store. Enjoy!

Amazon Finds:

This hanging chair was $99. You can find cheaper options if you don't want/need a hanging kit or pillow. I opted for this one because I liked the print for the pillow and weight capacity. The rug was $64 when I bought it, but looks like price has gone up. It's really cute though with vibrant colors and a nice thickness.

The mural is a FANTASTIC value for the money spent. It was $110 and came with 6, self-adhesive wall paper strips. They were clearly labeled and the only place you can really see the lines is in the lighter colored background section. They were super easy to reposition as needed, but I did find it bubbled under more than other wall papers I've used so I spent a good amount of time working them out. The ONLY drawback of the mural, is that it didn't have animals in it- and Sienna needed animals. So, I found a great decal set for $45 that works flawlessly with the mural. The stuffed cheetah is what Tessa picked out for Sienna for her birthday present. It's made by Melissa and Doug and under $60.

We decided to get rid of her bulky bed (which was once her crib!) and put her dresser in her closet to free up space. I needed a simple bedframe to go with a headboard I already had, and found this Zinus one for $150. It was insanely easy to put together, feels super sturdy, and I really like the look of the navy and wood legs.

The tropical sheet set was $43 and colors worked perfect with the greens and blues in the room. I originally bought these and they smelled SO BAD (like fertilizer), so we had to return them after attempting to wash the smell out 5x with no luck. Do not buy them.

I loved how the yellow popped against this color from the inspiration photo, so I found this yellow blanket, and it is the softest thing ever and totally cute with poms on it. It's now her favorite blanket (and maybe Lea's too).

Target Finds:

I'm only linking the cheetah print below above which comes in a few sizes. I got the16x20 print for $29. The matted frame is also from Target ($30). I also picked up the wooden lion head and little zebra head from the dollar spot (for $3 ea).

The rest of the artwork includes a painted cheetah by my mom, a painted cheetah with wings on canvas by Sienna, and a painted cheetah print design I framed by Sienna. The purple baby lion print is actually from a collection of nursery prints I bought years ago and never used...but Sienna found recently and asked to have in her room.

2) Fake plants
I bought a bunch of artificial plants in all shapes and sizes to put throughout her room. I think the greenery really helps pull it all together. We can't do real plants with soil in her room because it poses a risk of bacteria harmful to her. Well, also because I can't keep houseplants alive. So fake plants it is.

3) Throw Pillows and Bedding
Sienna already had the cheetah print lumbar pillow (although, fairly positive it's from Target), so I bought two others to go with the new bedding.

4) Misc Items
Lastly I picked up some baskets and other items for her shelves and desk.
Basket --- no longer available it looks like, but Homegoods has lots of similar options
Planter (use to hold small items on shelves - $15)

Phew! Okay, those are items I can link back to. In HomeGoods I picked up nautral, linen, curtains. I originally had white panels with teal tassels, but felt I needed the organic feel of the off white to get the vibe I was going for. The bamboo shelves are also from here, and are beautiful. It's two shelve units, and they stack. We attached to the wall to keep it from ever tipping over (since her room is carpeted). I also picked up small items for the shelves here including: green jewelery box, small fake succulent and a green/white candle. I also found a cute plant stand, which currently has one of the hanging plants sitting in it next to the shelves. Lastly, I found the mirror here, which I completely adore and I believe it was only $25.

Last tip I have, is don't forget to check out your local buy/sell/trade groups or Facebook marketplace. I scored Sienna's headboard from there for cheap and it's perfect. I also found a freshly painted antique sewing table, which I've repurposed as a desk. I love a cool piece like this!

Overall, Sienna is obsessed with her new room, and I'm happy it'll grow with her over the years. If "jungle" becomes an old passion, I can peel down the wallpaper and add some artwork to the wall, with mimimal changes to the rest of her room.

Well, I think I've covered everything, but if I left anything out or you have questions leave a comment, or message me!
